Fanfare and Fireworks at the University of Florida

Besides electricity, music is also one of my passions. For several years, I’ve played with the Gainesville Community Band in concerts to celebrate Veterans’ Day, Mother’s Day and a number of other events. And for five years now, I’ve performed with the band at the Fanfare and Fireworks event at the University of Florida to celebrate Independence Day.

This year, the event will take place on July 3 at the UF band shell at Flavet Field. It will run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and I will be playing the trumpet with the band at 9 p.m. It will be an hour-long concert that people will enjoy while watching the beautiful fireworks.

This experience is without a doubt one of my favorites because it brings me back to 1971 when I was a Gator majoring in music. It is also a very popular event within the community. Since its inception it has attracted an audience of about 20,000 people each year.

The event is presented by WUFT-TV and WUFT-FM and supported by the city of Gainesville, Florida Credit Union and GRU.  Glenn Richards, WUFT-FM morning edition host, will be emceeing the event and other musical groups like Bears and Lions, The Duppies, and Hedges will also perform.

I cordially invite you to come to celebrate the birth of our nation and to support your favorite electrician when he and his trumpet come together to deliver great music while you and your family enjoy the fireworks show.
