Installing a new outlet box

Installing a new outlet box in a paneled wall is certainly something you should leave to a qualified electrician.  In this blog, I will demonstrate this process through a series of photos.

First, I razor cut the box outline and reveal the plaster beneath.

Then, with a dremel plaster blade, I cut the outline and with a knife I remove the loose plaster revealing the wood lathe beneath.

Next, I push the loose plaster out of the spaces between the lathe, and using a fine toothed blade in my saber saw, I cut the center, the upper and the lower pieces of the wood lathe.

After that, with the lathe cut on both sides, I break off the remaining pieces with pliers, and I shave the excess wood with my razor knife.

Finally, install the outlet box and get ready to fish in the wire!
